African Bream - The Marracuene Project
With the food price inflation, experienced across the world over recent years, and the depletion of wild fish stocks, the world is in need of an additional source of affordable and healthy protein.
Of the largest drivers of food price inflation, is the movement towards bio fuel and increased cost of animal fodder.
Maracuene Bream & Aquaculture was established by Jan Brand and selected partners, with specific expertise in Hydro Construction, Finance, Corporate Law and Taxation, Business Administration, Agriculture, Ichthyology (the scientific study of fish) and the local Mozambican business environment.
The objective being the commercial production of Tilapia, a white meat substitute for hake and cod, and the on-site production of Duckweed as a fish feed.
Following substantial research, a model has been designed for the production of Tilapia, incorporating and improving on the key features of existing Aquaculture models and using duckweed, grown on site, as a feed for the fish.
